meet the artist

Alan Richer is a Brazilian artist and painter, born in Paraty, state of Rio de Janeiro. Self-taught, graduating in visual arts from FMU, he draws and paints since childhood. He began to study art more seriously from the age of 7. At the age of 14, he began studying oil painting, already selling his first canvases. In 2007, he began to exhibit his works in the streets of the Historic Center of Paraty, getting to know, exchanging and experiencing art with different painters, men and women, on the streets, or in studios scattered not only there, but throughout all regions of the city; breathing all the cultural and artistic atmosphere of his homeland.

After his first individual exhibition at the Instituto

Silo Cultural José Kleber in 2013, has already exhibited at Casa da

Culture of Paraty; often participates in edicts

and produces independent exhibitions, vernissages and workshops. He is a defender of nature and its caiçara culture, which has the characteristic of living in harmony with natural cycles and is in constant threat. His art is a manifesto for the defense of ecosystems and awareness of their importance, especially in the region where he lives, bathed by the Atlantic Forest, the sea and its mangroves.

Alan paints the natural landscapes of Paraty in Plein Air  (outdoors). With his "atelier bike", he intensifies contact with the environment, has access to more isolated places to record them through his paintings, being able to observe, research and spread a more collective ecological awareness. Oil, pastels, watercolor,   tempera, acrylic, graphite and charcoal on canvas and paper are the techniques used by the artist to portray the Brazilian fauna and flora, record preserved ecosystems and areas with threats of degradation; as well as rare and endangered animals.

He works his work through the Atlantic Forest, the mangroves, the animals that live there, the rivers, springs, waterfalls, mountains with dense vegetation and the sea and its people who live there. Direct contact with all these elements, observing with his own eyes and studying seasonal changes, makes his work inseparable from nature, a manifestation of its own functions.

In addition to being a plastic artist, he is also an art educator. It uses the same theme of naturalistic art in schools and institutions so that traditional peoples recognize and value their own territory, as well as visitors. Defines art as the means responsible for the evolution of the species; painting, as an expression of the human spirit and its ability to manifest the unconscious and the functions of the mind and soul; as a property of the uniqueness of life and its manifestations. Fascinated by nature, he became involved with ecology, gastronomy, poetry, music, cycling and Buddhism.
